GHG emissions information management includes continuous improvement of the GHG inventory, third-party verification, and development of technological tools to optimize data management for greater traceability, transparency, and analysis of information for decision making.
GHG emissions inventory
Ecopetrol's GHG emissions inventory is prepared in accordance with the ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol standard, setting “operational control” as organizational boundaries and using a bottom-up approach. 2019 base year is maintained, aligned with the emissions reduction target. Ecopetrol seeks to maintain its inventory verified in accordance with ISO 14064:3, covering 100% of the emissions generated in Colombia, in the facilities where the company has operational control. During 2024, Ecopetrol carried out the external verification with SGS Colombia S.A. under the GHG Protocol methodology of its GHG emissions inventory in scopes 1 and 2 for the period 2021, 2022 and 2023. In addition, for the first time, categories 1, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 15 of scope 3 were verified for 2023.
In 2024, the total scope 1 and 2 emissions correspond to 12,7 MtCO2e. In addition, the estimated scope 3 emissions correspond to ~151 MtCO₂e. This includes all the categories established by GHG Protocol, except for Category 14 – Franchises, considering that Ecopetrol does not have this business type in its operations.
