GHG emissions information management includes continuous improvement of the GHG inventory, third-party verification, and development of technological tools to optimize data management for greater traceability, transparency, and analysis of information for decision making.
Ecopetrol's GHG emissions inventory is prepared under ISO 14064-1 and GHG Protocol methodologies, within the organizational boundary “operational control” and with a bottom-up approach. EcopSetrol seeks to maintain its inventory verified in accordance with ISO 14064-3, covering 100% of the emissions generated in Colombia, in the facilities where the company has operational control. In 2024, Ecopetrol is preparing to verify its inventory, in scopes 1, 2 and 3, for the 2021 - 2023 period.
In 2023, the total scope 1 and 2 emissions correspond to 12.567.266 tCO₂e. In addition, the estimated scope 3 emissions correspond to ~155 MtCO₂e. This includes all the categories stablished by GHG Protocol, except for Category 14 - Franchises, considering that Ecopetrol does not have this business type in its operations.
