Ecopetrol articulates its Climate Action pillar to the national government public policy, besides, it contributes to the construction of technical and regulatory guidelines to strengthen the country's institutional capacity in climate change.
Institutional articulation
Ecopetrol stands out its institutional articulation with the Energy and Mines Ministry, mainly with the Climate Change Comprehensive Plan implementation. More details PIGMME.
Ecopetrol is part of the National Carbon Neutrality Program that seeks to join forces in building sustainable and low-carbon growth, thus contributing to the achievement of the goals established in the NDC and the establishment of pillars to achieve the national carbon target neutrality.
Ecopetrol has participated in the construction of climate change framework documents that guide Colombia's climate ambition. Among them is the Climate Action Law,Long-Term Climate Strategy - E2050, and the Nationally Determined Contribution - NDC.
Global initiatives
Ecopetrol is part of the global initiatives to achieve the Paris Agreement GHG mitigation goals.
Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Ecopetrol joined the oil&gas initiative in the line of action "Methane Association in the Oil&Gas Industry (OGMP)" , led by the United Nations to evaluate methane sources and implement cost-effective technologies and practices for its reduction.
Zero Routine Flaring, a World Bank initiative launched in 2015 with the support of the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFRP), has a definite goal of ending routine gas flaring in fields as soon as possible and no later than 2030.
