The Ecopetrol Group, through its companies Cenit, Oleoducto de Colombia and Ecopetrol S. A., will allocate $3,600 million to support the payment of electricity bills of the most vulnerable Colombian families who have seen their income impacted by the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
The contribution will be held in the framework of the initiative “Share My Power” https://compartomienergia.minenergia.gov.co/#/index under the Decree 517 of the April 4, 2020 by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, which finds that natural and legal persons, help families in Colombia of scarce resources to meet the obligations arising from the provision of electric service.
With the linking of the Ecopetrol Group to this initiative it is expected to benefit around 30 thousand families of strata 1 and 2 in different areas of the country and who present difficulties to pay energy bills. This new contribution is in addition to the aid that the group has earmarked to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, which already exceeds $72 billion.
The disbursements will be made through the subsidiary Ecopetrol Energía in two phases for a value of 1,800 million each, for a total of $3,600 million, with the aim of facilitating the payment of consumption corresponding to the months July and August.
“We join this initiative of the National Government that seeks to guarantee the access of many families to an essential service in our daily lives and which generates well-being. We are living an unprecedented situation that calls us to stand in solidarity and join efforts to help those who need it most. I am convinced that if we continue to add contributions, we will manage to get ahead of this crisis,” said Felipe Bayón Pardo, president of Ecopetrol.
The contributions of the Ecopetrol Group during the crisis resulting from the covid-19 pandemic have been reflected in humanitarian aid, provision of protection elements, strengthening of the health system, economic relief, among other initiatives that have allowed to mitigate the impact on the most vulnerable population.
