Completed the construction of the ‘La Virgen ' interchange, of the Via Yuma project in the Magdalena Medio

Ecopetrol reports that yesterday completed the construction of the ‘La Virgen’ interchange, a work that is part of the Via Yuma project and that facilitates vehicular traffic towards the cocoa route and the trunk of the Magdalena Medio, and which will allow a saving of at least 28 kilometers of travel to the users of the route.

The work of infrastructure, located at kilometer 8 on the road to Barrancabermeja leads to Bucaramanga, it is integrated by three bridges, one of 35 meters in length, and two of 10 meters, each one, over 4.4 miles of roads, lighting system and complementary works of signage and urban planning as land reclamation and water management.

Heavy cargo traffic to Barrancabermeja will save 28 kilometers of travel, because it will no longer have to reach the La Lizama district, to continue its transit to other parts of the country, through the trunk of the Magdalena Medio.

“As implementers of the project Via Yuma we are satisfied with the progress of the work thanks to the joint work of all the entities that contribute to its construction to make this dream a reality common to give to Barrancabermeja, a road system which enables communication with the Cacao Route and the Backbone of the Middle Magdalena, which contributes to improve the competitiveness of this important region of the country,” said Jürgen Loeber, Vice president of Projects and Drilling of Ecopetrol.

The works of the exchanger began in November 2019 and its construction was suspended for almost two months due to the mandatory preventive isolation decreed by the National Government as a measure to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed in May this year with strict biosecurity protocols to avoid the involvement of the 260 workers in (average) that participated in its execution, with 95% of local labor.

"Today is a very important day for the connectivity and development of Barrancabermeja, the construction works of the La Virgen Interchange on the Yuma Road, which connects the district with the whole country, have been completed in record time. An important work that adds to the great commitment to commercial, industrial and agricultural development, which we make available to all, thanks to the joint work between the District Mayor, the Government of Santander, Ecopetrol and INVÍAS”, said the mayor of Barrancabermeja, Alfonso Eljach.

The exchanger had a total cost of 3 38 billion and was executed by the consortium vial Magdalena Medio, formed by the companies LATINCO S. A. and HB Estructuras S. A. S.

State of the Yuma way

In development of the Via Yuma project, the construction of two sectors totaling more than 21 kilometers has already been completed. The first connects the exchanger of the Virgin with the trunk of the Magdalena Medio, at the point called Rancho Camacho, and the second connects the exchanger of Puerto Wilches, on the road to the corregimiento El Llanito with the Guillermo Gaviria bridge, which communicates to the Departments of Santander and Antioquia.

Currently, the delivery of these road sections to the concessionaire Ruta del Cacao through the National Infrastructure agency (ANI) is formalized.

The Gran Vía Yuma is executed by Ecopetrol through an agreement signed with INVÍAS, the Government of Santander and the District of Barrancabermeja. In total, the entities have committed resources of more than $374 billion
