Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM)

Última actualización 19 nov. 2014
Within the framework of the agreement signed between Ecopetrol and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in 2011, a Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) feasibility analysis was carried out for each of the energy components that form part of the expansion and modernization of the Cartagena Refinery, determining the potential for reducing GHG emissions, and their applicability under the criteria defined by CDM, which made it possible to establish requirements compliance for each of them, initiating the preparation of the Project Design Document.

In order to access best business practices and technologies worldwide that make it possible to achieve better energy indicators and thus reduce GHG emissions, the company is working on the formalization of technical cooperation agreements with international bodies such as the EPA?s Global Methane Initiative (GMI) and the Government of Canada, which are worldwide leaders in the implementation of technology and the evaluation of projects for energy optimization to reduce the carbon footprint of the crude oil produced, as well as for intermediate goods and associated petrochemicals.
