The preservation of the environment is one of the pillars
in Ecopetrol’s operations. A sample of this harmonious
coexistence between the industry and the environment
may be found in the waters of La Guajira, underneath
the Chuchupa I and II gas platforms. These structures, in
addition to providing the greatest volume of gas that
Colombians use, have served as a sanctuary for the development
of over 300 fauna and flora marine species.
With high resolution underwater photographs in the platforms
operated by ChevronTexaco in a joint operation
with Ecopetrol, readers may become acquainted with the
ecosystem that has been generated in one of the places
with the greatest energy resources in the country, the
Caribbean, thanks to a study undertaken by Instituto de
Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras (Institute of Marine
and Coastal Research - Invemar).
