Standard & Poor's reaffirms the corporate risk rating for Ecopetrol S.A.

Ecopetrol S.A. announced today that the credit rating agency Standard & Poor´s on May 4, 2010, published a report where it reaffirms the corporate risk rating for Ecopetrol at BB+ with a stable outlook.

According to the report, the rating confirmation granted to Ecopetrol reflects, among others, its leadership position in the Colombian hydrocarbon industry, its low production costs and its well-established access to the capital markets.

Similarly, the credit rating agency considers that the Republic of Colombia (which has a credit rating on foreign currency of BB+, stable Outlook) would provide timely and sufficient extraordinary support to Ecopetrol in the event of financial distress, given its fundamental role in the country´s economy. Ecopetrol is the largest company in Colombia and the main supplier of refined products for the local market.
